ENROLLMENT PACKETS
Enrollment Packets for 2012-2013 have been mailed to all current Granite Families. Please read over and note the changes made for next year.  Registration for current families will be due by Wednesday, February 29th.  We will open enrollment for new families beginning March 1st, and spots will not be held for current families at this point.  Enrollment documents will also be made available on our website www.granitebaptistschool.org.

“MAROON OUT”
The weather forecast is calling for a “Maroon Out” in our GBS gym Friday night.  Come watch our Boys’ Middle School, Girls’ Varsity and Boys’ Varsity play against the Arlington Eagles at 4:30, 5:30 and 7:00.   Any Braves fan wearing Maroon will get in FREE.   GBS students must still wear their uniform skirt, pants or jumper.

LOST AND FOUND
All items in the Lost and Found will once again be on display Thursday, February 9th and Friday, February 10th.  Any item not picked up by Friday the 10th will be donated to charity.

GBS OPEN HOUSE - DATE CHANGE:  Friday, February 24th
We will be having an Open House on Friday, February 24th and again on Thursday, April 19th from 9:00 am to
12:00 noon.  We encourage you to come at these times to check out your child’s class for the 2012-2013 school year.

PARKING LOT SAFETY
Parents, for the safety of all our children we have our parking lot blocked off by cones during the school day.  Parents should not move or drive around the cones for any reason at any time.  Also, because of children walking to the lunchroom and the playground, driving in through the exit end of our parking lot is prohibited.

EARLY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE
Parents wishing to pick up their child before normal dismissal time should first come to the School Office.  While you are signing them out we will contact your child’s teacher to have him or her ready for you to come to the classroom to pick them up.  For safety purposes, we do not allow Elementary children to come to the Office unattended.  This process should take less than five minutes and helps to ensure the safety of your child. Thank you!

GRANITE ELEMENTARY HAT DAY
Congratulations to the winners of our 2011-2012 Hat Day.

ENERGY DRINKS VS. SPORTS DRINKS
Parents, energy drinks such as Monster, Red Bull, Jolt, Amp, etc. should not be brought to school or consumed during school hours.  These types of drinks contain caffeine and other stimulants and should not be confused with sports drinks such as Gatorade which contain carbohydrates, electrolytes and minerals.  If you are interested in reading reports from the American Academy of Pediatrics or the Journal of Pediatrics on the health risks of children consuming energy drinks, please stop by the School Office for a copy.  Thank you!

ELEMENTARY SPRING CONCERT - DATE CHANGE
Parents, please note the date of the Elementary Spring Concert has been changed to Tuesday, May 15th.

ELEMENTARY FINE ARTS CALENDAR
Parents, please take note of two upcoming events for Elementary Fine Arts:  The GBS Elementary Spelling Bee will be held on Friday, February 24th at 12:15 pm in our Church Auditorium.  Also, all Fine Arts art projects should be turned into the Church Auditorium on Monday, February 27th by 8:15 am for judging.  Please make sure the artist’s information sheet is attached to the art project.  All paintings, drawings and photos must be framed and/or mounted.  Projects that do not have an information sheet or are not framed or mounted will not be entered into the competition.  Please see Mrs. Johnson if you have any questions.  Thank you!

CALENDAR CHANGE – NO SCHOOL: Thursday, March 8, 2012
Parents, please note there is a change to our school calendar.  There will be no school on Thursday, March 8th because GBS will be hosting the Maryland Association of Christian Schools Secondary Academic Fine Arts Competition.
